JAYAPURA - It
brings us great sadness to report, we have received information that
today 4 more innocent West Papuan people were shot dead by the
Indonesian police and intelligence in Jayapura, West Papua.
Safusek Kabak, Demi Kepno, Yenias Wandikmbo and Yan Gideon Tabuni.
According to reports, they were at the local market today when armed
members of the Indonesian police and intelligence approached them,
alongside Indonesian migrants.
They tried to kill the activists who panicked and tried to escape but were shot by Indonesian intelligence/police.
Those shot were taken to the Bhayangkara police/military hospital and when confirmed dead, were taken to the morgue.
It is not yet know whether the men received any treatment, nor whether
they were shot dead at the market place or died in later hospital.
Friends and family of the victims were only able to retrieve the body of
Safusek Kabak and are seen in this photo grieving over his body.
We understand that this is a very distressing image but it is very
important that such pictures are published to show the world what the
Indonesian police and military is doing in West Papua.
The KNPB and
family of the victims sent us this information and asked that we
publish this story so that the international community will understand
what is really happening to our people.
The Indonesian military has threatened to "destroy anyone who boycotts the Indonesian elections".
This latest tragic story comes at the same time at least 36 other
Papuans, most of them KNPB activists have been arrested in the last two
weeks ahead of the mass boycott of the Indonesian elections to be
carried out on 9th July.
We are incredibly concerned about the
safety of those still in police custody and we are calling on all
supporters to please contact the Indonesian police and prison
authorities and tell them that the world is watching them and that we
demand that all political prisoners be immediately released.
We will provide the relevant contact details below
The murder of our four brothers is an act of extreme brutality which we fully condemn.
State police cannot murder 4 innocent people in the middle of the street and not expect to face justice for their crimes.
Wit their spirits, we will continue to struggle on in the vision of the
murdered activists, Safusek Kabak, Demi Kepno, Yenias Wandikmbo and Yan
Gideon Tabuni.
We desperately need help from the outside world.
Please keep our people in your hearts and prayers, especially at this time of great tragedy.
Thank you all very much
Rest in peace dear brothers.
You did not die in vain. One day your people will finally be free
