Supporting West Papua

AWPA-SA is a local South Australian activist group supporting West Papuan Human Rights. We support the West Papuans in their right to self determination to decide their own future, a right that has been denied them since Indonesia invaded their country.

West Papua is an extremely rich country. It has vast reserves of Copper and gold, oil and gas, large areas of virgin hardwood forests except most of the wealth is taken out of the country and goes to the Indonesian Government. Papua is one of the poorest areas in Indonesia where most of the people live at subsistence level with appalling health, welfare and education problems. Currently there are around 30,000 Indonesian troops stationed in the country. There is no open and free access to the country.

Our aims are to raise awareness of the conditions of the West Papuan people We produce a quarterly newsletter, hold various activities, lobby Governments, fundraising for projects in West Papua and support West Papuan refugees in Australia.

AWPA-SA is part of a coalition of West Papuan support groups around the country and the world.
