Jayapura, 4/4 (Jubi) – The Amnesty International (AI) said the Police has committed to a crime in accordance to the International Law in regards to the act of violence towards two student activists, Alfares Kapissa and Yali Wenda.

“The Indonesian Authorities continuously used such legislations to criminalize the political activists in Papua,” the Amnesty International Campaign Officer, Josef Benedict, released their statement to Jubi (4/4).

The Amnesty International has documented several cases of extrajudicial killings and the use of unnecessary or excesses abuses towards some political activists who being arrested, detained and interrogated by the police in Papua.

“This incident was a current up date about the tortures and abuses using by the Indonesian security force,” he said.

He further said despite the assurance promised by the Indonesian authorities to take the perpetrators to the Court, but they never took the impartial investigations. And those who were responsible are rarely brought to the justice in front of the independent trial,” Josef said.

The Amnesty International called an investigation leading by the independent and impartial civilian against the allegations on the Indonesian authorities and the results should be published to the public. And those who were responsible in those crimes must be brought to the justice and the victims should obtain the vindication.

As previously reported by Jubi, Yali Wenda and Alfares Kapissa were allegedly tortured or mistreated after being arrested by the police on 2 April 2014 for leading a demonstration calling for the release of Papuan political prisoners. Both said they got kicked and hit with the rifle butt by the police during their arrest. The Police have released them two days later. (Jubi/Victor Mambor/rom)
