Head of the Gospel Church Synod (Kingmi) (Jubi) |
Jayapura, 21/3 (Jubi) – Heading to the legislature election, the
Gospel Church Synod (Kingmi) issued a letter to the entire church in
Papua.
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become
blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and
crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky. (Philippians 2:14-15).
Since the last few days and months, the Church has becoming a witness
of church’s congregation activities in the preparation of election
which has affected the Church and themselves. These activities have been
coloring the life or the relationship between the villagers, families
or individuals to bring a potential of conflict.
Facing the reality of life, the Church conveyed the following
statement to be concerned among the congregation, that the election,
which organized in the violence of state, has killed our church communities.
One of the conflicts is the land dispute clash in Timika in which the
security force of state was not only condoning the conflict but also
actively extending the conflict by killing a number of people including
our priest who been shot by a police officer in Timika on Tuesday
(11/3). As a God believer, those who will or won’t participate in the
election, they have been sent by God into the life to become a witness
and a believer. Let’s us to look, interpret and obey the Words of God
(Philippians 2: 14-15) which we have quoted above.
First, the Synod invites people to make this opportunity as a right
time to implement the God’s word. Furthermore, the Church hoped the
election’s candidates in particularly to understand and refer to the
government’s regulation as their guidance.
Second, the Synod observes the number of candidates who compete the
election was not equal with the number of legislature seats. In
addition, the ‘culture of buying the voters’ could also lead to an open
conflict between the candidates’ supporters. If it’s happened, therefore
those who should be blamed are the campaign teams of candidates who want Papua remain in riot.
Therefore the Church requested to all parties to look the signs of
the Bible and to avoid the sneaky and dirty ways. All parties are
encouraged to enter the politics world with a “willingness to accept a
victory of defeat” and pay attention to the signs of God’s Word and traditional wisdom for not taking anybody’s rights.
The last, as the Church of God in Papua, the Kingmi Synod who has launched a new evangelization on 6 April 2012 for Papua New Vision of Peace (included in the Mars Song of Kingmi) invites our brothers and sisters who participated in the political worlds, to stand together with us to struggle for the new pillar of life.
First, the Church to read the signs of age (Matthew 16:2-3); second,
to maintain and protect the dignity, keep the light of God still shining
within each of us (Corinthians 2: 4-6); third, to establish the solid
families; fourth, to foster the children, Fift, to build a work culture;
sixth, to serve the Crist who present among us to serve the poor,
widows, and orphans (Matthew 25-35 – etc) and the last the Church to
deny itself and suffer to follow the Christ’s mindset (Philippians
2:5-8).
This is a letter published by Kingmy Synod of Papua on 14 March and
signed by the Rev. Benny Giay, the Chairman of the Kingmy Synod of
Papua. (Jubi/Indrayadi TH/rom)
