Ones Suhuniap, general secretary of KNPB, told Jubi that police from Jayapura dispersed the rally and fired shots into the air. Five people were injured and dozens arrested.
“The arrests were triggered by students who became provocateurs by throwing stones at police from the direction of the secretariat of BEM Uncen and from the campus on the way up,” Suhuniap said last week.
The peaceful demonstration was coordinated by KNPB in order to support the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP).
“Members KNPB were arrested at the gate of Cenderawasih University campus in Perumnas III Waena. The arrest occurred at 09:15 ( local time). During the arrest KNPB activists were injured as police beat them,” Suhuniap added.
“The police also arrested two members of KNPB at the Expo, Waena. They were arrested at 9:00 am ( Papua time). The demonstration of KNPB was forcibly dispersed by police . Other action in front of the post office in Abepura and DPRP were also dissolved. “Suhuniap added.
