VANUATU AMBASSADOR FOR UN PROMISES TO STRUGGLE THE ISSUE OF WEST PAPUA

Jayapura, 4/4 (Jubi) – New appointed Vanuatu Ambassador for United Nations, Odo Tevi, assured the Government and the people of Vanuatu that he would concern on the issue of West Papua despite the issues of Matius and Hunter Islands and climate change.

As reported in dailyvanuatu.com, in front of the President Iolu Abil and the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Edward Natape and other Senior Officers of Vanuatu, Tevi promised to maintain a momentum that have been developed by the Government of Vanuatu currently with the United Nations in New York.

“I will work closely with the Prime Minister Moana Karkas and maintain a momentum with the UN for what have been aimed by the Government of Vanuatu, such as the issue of West Papua, the human rights and climate change issues, in particularly related to the impact received by the smaller countries in the Pacific Island,” he said shortly after receiving the assignment letter from the President of Vanuatu and taking oath in front of the Supreme Prosecutor of Vanuatu, Ismail Kalkasau on Thursday (3/4).

President of Vanuatu Iolu Abbil briefly said he believed the Ambassador Tevi has quality, value and trust towards his task and duty in New York. “The country’s image would be mirrored in your tasks. We do not want you to involved in the passport selling and its related issues,” the President told the Ambassador. (Jubi/Victor Mambor/rom)
